THE LIVINGSTON PLAYERS - bringing quality theatre to the local community

This space gives  details of social events, audition information, rehearsal venue changes and general chat

Carol Singing

In case you hadn’t noticed, there are only 50 shopping days left until Christmas. How depressing is that? And by Sunday 21st December you will be in need of a little light relief. So why not lend your voices to our annual Carol Singing in aid of Cystic Fibrosis?   We meet outside the Purple Sage at Livingston South Railway Station at 5pm and for about an hour, depending on how cold it is, we wend our way through the Bankton area.  This is always a great way to start off the festive season and we aim to collect around £250 for Cystic Fibrosis, a very worthy cause. The Hutchinson’s will provide their customary hospitality with hot soup to warm us all up afterwards.  If you wish to contribute a pot of soup, contact Judith who will be happy to receive it.

Alex says.....The Factory Girls

I am delighted to report that The Factory Girls was a great success. The Box Office exceeded 500 for the first time since our enforced move to the Deans Community High School Theatre. This is due to each and every one of you who sold tickets and/or came along to see the show. It gave a great boost to Colin and the cast and, from the feedback that we got after each performance, and since the run ended, that was reflected in very strong performances of a play that was very much enjoyed.

So a huge thanks to everyone who helped to get our season off to a flying start………………….. and can you please do even better for Blood Brothers!

Blood Brothers

Rehearsals are well under way with a very strong cast.  It is good to see new faces in the plays and I know this will be a fabulous production.

In anticipation that this play will sell well we have decided to extend the run to 4 nights instead of the normal 3 - from Wednesday 28 to Saturday 31 January 2009.  We have already had enquiries for tickets, and we have our first firm booking, so to avoid disappointment get your order in NOW – they would be a great Christmas present to give to your friends and relations!

 "RUSH" THE MUSICAL

The first rehearsals will be on Thursday 8 January 2009 at 7:30pm in the Church Hall at Carmondean Community Centre.

This will be a “meet & greet” evening where we will all get a chance to have a “blether” and catch up with everyone’s news.

Our Director, Colin Peter and Musical Director, Margaret McAdie will give an idea of what is required acting and singing wise.  They will also indicate the format for the auditions, which will be on Sunday 18 January 2009 in the Church Hall.

We look forward to a good turnout from members old and new.

Forth Region Explorer Scouts

“The Factory Girls” featured several industrial sewing stations and these necessitated some heavy scene changing. We were fortunate to obtain the services of the Forth Region Explorer Scouts, who were looking for ways to raise funds for a trip to Namibia in 2009. They did a great job for us and we donated £100 in acknowledgement of their efforts.  In addition they took a collection after each performance. The following comes from the Scouts.

“Thanks to the generosity of the company and the audiences, we raised over £400!!  It was an enjoyable experience for all of us who took part – none of us had done anything like this before.

When we are in Namibia we will be helping to renovate a health clinic and run a clean water supply into a homestead of about 400 people. We will also be doing some work for the local Scouts by making some repairs to their camp ground.

On behalf of all those who are taking part in the expedition, and all those who will benefit from our work there, we would like to say a big “THANK YOU!” to Livingston Players and their supporters.

Christmas Tree Festival

Carmondean Church is holding a Christmas Tree Festival on 13th December from 10am to 5pm, and on14th December from 2pm until 5pm. Several of the organizations that use the Centre, including ourselves, will decorate a tree. Father Christmas (no, not Alex) will open the Festival on Saturday at 10am, and it will close with a Carol Service at 6pm on the Sunday.  Come along and have a mug of mulled wine and a mincemeat

Publicity Event

In the September newsletter we announced that we would be holding a publicity event in the Almondvale Centre in late October. That had to be rescheduled, and will now take place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November. Could you spare an hour or two from your Christmas shopping to tell people about the Players?  Please give Alex a call on 01506 495531.

Hello from the Big Smoke!

(An e-mail received recently from Stephanie Feeney, who played Adele in “Shakers”)

How are you?  Hope all is well in Sunny Livi.  I was just having a wee look on the website to see what’s going on with the Players and thought I’d send a wee cheeky email to let you know how I’m getting on!

London is fabulous!  Blair & I have settled really well, we have a lovely (albeit tiny!) wee flat in Golders Green, a nice leafy area just next door to Hampstead.  It’s a nice place to come home to.  Haven’t been out loads as money is tight, but managed a pub crawl a couple of weeks ago, the aim being to get off at every stop on our tube line and find as many decent pubs as possible - we only managed 4 stops (Hampstead, Camden, Chalk Farm & Belsize Park), and found 8 brilliant pubs, but when we're a bit richer I’m sure we will continue our mission!

I started drama school a month ago, and so far it’s great!  I’m in 9am-6pm every day, doing lots of physical classes but surprisingly haven’t done any acting yet!  Lots of improvisation, voice classes, and singing classes, as well as radio and (my personal favourite) stage combat!  They’re working us hard!  Everyone is lovely as well, no egos have reared their ugly heads yet, but it has only been a few weeks – I’m sure they'll appear soon!  Also had a few clowning classes, so I’m now expert at fake trips and have a couple of amazing hat tricks to impress people with at parties!  This week alone I’ve been a cavewoman, a nostril hair, a soundwave, the embodiment of the taste of lemon (!) and the smell of grass (!!).  I kid you not!

Getting my professional headshots taken next week, so as you can imagine, I’m REALLY looking forward to that.  Hmmm.  Hopefully I'll manage to get at least 1 good shot in a film of 75!  It gets put into this book called Graduate Spotlight, which will have photos of every actor/actress graduating next year, and it gets distributed to every agent and casting director in the country, so that’s quite cool!  No pressure then!

And Finally

Congratulations to Nicola (Katisha in Hot Mikado) on the birth of Amelie May on 1 November. She weighed in at 8 lbs 15 oz and Nicola and Amelie are both doing well.

Marie Curie Cancer Care

Marie Curie kindly gave us the following mention in their recent newsletter:- “Many thanks to the members of the Livingston Players Operatic Society who raised £603 from bucket collections after their spicy performance of Hot Mikado.”

Email

Communication is very important in a vibrant, dynamic club such as Livingston Players.  Not many clubs have an all year round performance schedule such as we haveso it is important that we ‘keep you in the loop’.  Email is the easiest and most cost effective way to do this so please ensure your email address is registered and you advise us when you change it by contacting John Hutchinson at
